Sustainable technology without borders

Compator’s mission is to promote sustainable global inclusivity through accessible technology. This feeds into our holistic vision to improve the life expectancy and economic activity of the world’s poorest people through greater prosperity and health outcomes. Our goal is to add five more years of economic activity and well-being to people’s lives. How? By leapfrogging energy-hungry legacy technology solutions that would place excessive demand on the national power supply, are often unobtainable in the Global South, and are becoming unsustainable even in the Global North.

The central aim of Compator is to provide high-quality compute and infrastructure to remote or unconnected regions or communities, allowing users to harness the true potential of digitisation. This is applicable to schooling, healthcare, community and disaster relief where there’s little bandwidth to access internet-enabled services. The problem we’re solving is that compute is in general inefficient and difficult to deploy, needing many resources that are scarce in the global south; bypassing these issues, we clear the path to digital self-sufficiency.

Driven by youthful in-country workforces empowered with new skills, our technology will help promote integration, generate inclusive economic growth and job creation, break digital divides, and eradicate poverty.

Xqizit – low-energy computing

Underpinning the Compator platform and supported by a revolutionary programming language, Xqizit is our key technology partner. Its cloud dynamically scales application resources in real-time so that they only consume the hardware and energy they need when they need it. This way, users can dramatically lower costs and energy consumption, without facing complex operational efficiency concerns.

eXate – simpler, automated data security

A distributed software platform, eXate enforces data privacy, data protection and dynamic attribute-based access control by embedding centralised controls in common data ingestion. Its partnership with Compator focuses on ensuring that user data is properly configured in the backend, bringing integrity, security, auditability and the knowledge that only people who should see their data do.

Teens in AI – online learning experiences

Teens in AI provides a digital space for young people to explore a future in tech and AI through collaborative hands-on learning experiences. Its partnership with Compator is facilitating learning to budding programmers in the Global South, who don’t enjoy the usual internet connectivity and data processing afforded to the Global North. This includes XTC Lang, the language Xqizit (and Compator) apps are built on.

Teledata ICT Ghana – internet service provider

Ghana’s leading internet and telephone services company, Teledata ICT serves more than 2,000 business clients and 45,000 users around the country. Its partnership with Compator is designed to support our efforts in bringing enhanced connectivity and compact hyperscale compute to devices that are wirelessly connected to Compator’s expanding network of mini data centres.

Overview

With software and technology that can enable digital self-sufficiency in the Global South, Compator provides the smart new way to access compute, process data, and to use and make apps:

  • Where access is needed
  • Without the need to build expensive infrastructure
  • With sustainable compute requiring minimal energy and no cooling
  • Without the need for a permanent connection to the wider internet

Its apps are built using a revolutionary new programming language and hosted on the Compator platform, which is in turn supported by a new lower-level platform that radically reduces inefficiencies.

What’s more, if you have little or no access to the internet, a Compator-enabled device can act as a simple hub for a local network, bringing reliable communications to underserved communities.

Platform

The Compator platform runs on normal computers. No special hardware is needed. What’s revolutionary is the new virtual operating system that sits between the hardware and the platform itself.

Designed to minimise redundancies, unnecessary computations and refreshing sleeping apps, this operating system delivers fast and reliable processing at a tiny fraction of the compute, and without access to costly data centres. Being somewhere between 10 and 100 times as efficient depending on use, this means:

  • You need much less power
  • You need much less cooling
  • You’re not reliant on complex infrastructure

All apps hosted on the Compator platform are built using a new programming language. Similar to Java or Swift, it’s straightforward to learn, versatile and designed for the new operating system. So whether you’re using an off-the-peg app or creating one yourself, you know that it will run smoothly, securely and efficiently on any Compator-enabled device.

Distribution

Compator works with local leaders to find suitable locations for Compator Cloud Cores, such as schools or hospitals. These cores – or local mini-data centres – connect to each other to form a wider local Compator Cloud network that can also connect to the internet, spreading connectivity and access to compute in remote and underserved areas. With no need for continuous access to the internet to function, this digital innovation will promote regional growth and empower people in rural communities.
